Installation Overview For Oracle Database Gateway Products

GOAL

This note is a quick guide for installation of Oracle Database Gateway products for windows, Unix, and Linux platforms.  Each colored section of text is a click-able link to the referenced content

SOLUTION

-- Prior To Install --

1. Check to be sure that your non-Oracle database, platform, and Oracle databases are certified. Check the open systems gateways certification matrix if you are using a non-Mainframe targeted gateway. If you are connecting to a mainframe database, check the mainframe gateways certification.

2. Be sure that your system is ready for the installation by checking the system installation and configuration requirements.

3. Download the gateway product to install. You can review the download reference, or watch a short video demonstration of how to download the gateway product.

4. Once the gateway is downloaded extract the download. This will create a directory called gateways. Switch to the gateways directory, and start the installation from here (for Unix/Linux issue ./runInstaller, or from Windows double click on setup.exe).

5. Follow the logical steps as prompted, select the gateway(s) product(s) you wish to install, and follow through the menus as prompted.

6. Following the installation, additional steps are required to configure the Oracle database link, tnsnames, and listener.ora files (if not using the default, dedicated listener for the gateway). To that end, you can configure these using the Gateway Configuration Utility, or you can manually configure these elements following the manual configuration notes.

7. Test the gateway to be sure it connects successfully:
Start the listener, then test the gateway by issuing a select against "dual" via the database link:

 select * from dual@

This query should complete successfully, to confirm the gateway is working.

SOLUTION

Downloading Gateway Products

***** Please note that 10.2 and 11.1 Gateways can no longer be downloaded. If required then open a SR with Oracle Support **************

Oracle Database Gateway products can be downloaded from the following -


1. Oracle Technology Network - OTN -

http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/index.html

Choose the relevant platform and version then the 'See All' option.
Under that there will be an option to download the Gateway products, for example -

Oracle Database Gateways 11g Release 2 (11.2.0.1.0) for Microsoft Windows (32-bit)

Only 11.2 and 12c versions can be downloaded from this link.
If installing the base 11.2.0.1.0 version you should then apply the latest patchset which is currently 11.2.0.4.


2. Oracle Software Delivery Cloud

http://edelivery.oracle.com/

- choose your language and go through the Export Validation process
- on the next screen ' Media Pack Search' screen choose -
Select a Product Pack - Oracle database
- then choose your platform
- choose the 'Oracle Database' media pack for the version you need. Only 11.2 and 12c Gateways can be downloaded from the Database media pack, earlier versions are not available for download.
- on the next screen there will be a Gateway media pack to download.
If installing the base 11.2.0.1.0 version you should then apply the latest patchset which is currently 11.2.0.4.

3. My Oracle Support - 11.2.0.4

The 11.2.0.4 patchset is available as -

Patch 13390677: 11.2.0.4.0 PATCH SET FOR ORACLE DATABASE SERVER

To download the gateways -

- logon to My Oracle Support
- go to Patches & Updates section
- search for patch number 10404530 and choose your platform
- click on the patch number
- for most platforms for the gateways you only need to download -
p13390677_112040_platform_5of7.zip
for example -
p13390677_112040_Linux-x86-64_5of7.zip
but for Windows 32-bit this is -
p13390677_112040_WINNT_4of6.zip

To confirm which file is needed for the Gateways review the 'README' file which details which download files contain which software.
This is the Gateway media pack and has everything needed for a standalone gateway install.
